Never Waste a Crisis

Just a few weeks ago, I would never have imagined we’d be living in the world we live in today. Of course, we were all watching the news of what was happening in China and then Italy, but it seems that few people saw quarantines and shelter-in-place policies as a local reality. Now, this is life.

As parents, we have a couple of ways to see the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic:

Something to endure

Most of us have stocked up on food, we have milk and toilet paper, we’ve updated our streaming subscriptions… Our families are ready to endure the crisis.

Something to get past

Many of us are already done with this thing. The list of things canceled due to the pandemic grows every day and kids are missing out on experiences they’ve been long anticipating. The sooner this thing is over, the happier everyone is going to be.

However, there’s another perspective worth considering:

The 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic is also an opportunity.

If we are thinking rationally, we all know that our world is going to be different after the Coronavirus. Schools, businesses and every other kind of organization are reinventing themselves. Not everything is going to go back to the way things were.

The same could be true of our families. Perhaps, the same SHOULD be true of our families. The global pandemic is breaking all of our habits, routines and expectations, which makes it immensely easier to create new ones.

Why not maximize the circumstances to bring your family closer?

  • Since we’re eating most of our meals at home now, what if we were more intentional about the time we spend sitting around the table?
  • Since we’re together at home a lot more than usual, why don’t we carve out some intentional time for new experiences and adventures?
  • Since we’re all feeling a bit of uncertainty, what if we decided to pray together daily around the things that create anxiety?

The COVID 19 Pandemic crisis is upon us, like it or not. What opportunities will YOU choose to see?

(Probably going to link the three ideas at the bottom to downloadable ideas for conversations, experiences/adventures, and prayers.)
